Benefits of Meditation
Meditation focuses on maintaining quietness of our busy mind. The effect is to direct our concentration to one healing element – one sound, one word, one image, or one’s breath. When our mind is “filled” with the feeling of calm and peace, it cannot take off on its own and worry, stress out or get depressed.
Meditation can be defined as any activity that keeps the attention pleasantly anchored in the present moment. When our mind is calm and focused in the present, it is neither reacting to memories from the past nor being preoccupied with plans for the future. Meditation therefore helps to increase our ability to concentrate and improve memory power. It brings us a sense of inner peace and tranquility and makes us appealing in nature. It calms our mind and free it from anxiety.
The meditative state allows nerves and tired muscles to relax and calm heart rates and ease blood pressure. It is so restful and peaceful that you will look forward to do it daily.
HOW TO MEDITATE:
- Find a quiet spot which is free from distractions, it can be indoor or outdoor
- Wear loose clothing, preferably white in color
- Relax and sit comfortably, keeping your back straight and legs in full lotus position (crossed)
- Play soft and relaxing music to keep you focused
- Close your eyes and drop your shoulders
- Breathe slowly and deeply from the belly for five to six times
- Think of something to focus on to prevent your mind from wandering away
- Sit still for about 15 to 20 minutes, inhaling and exhaling and relax your body
- As you feel totally calm and relaxed, slowly open your eyes and you will be able to start your day with renewed energy
